A JOURNEY TO BATAAN

(a psysc nystesc experience)

By:AL-JOHN A. AHMAD (3rd year student)

The PHILIPPINE SOCIETY OF YOUTH SCIENCE CLUBS invited the entire Philippine nation last April 03,2009 to join the National Youth Science and Technology Environment Summer Camp with its theme: kaLIKHAsan dalumat sa makabagong henerasyon and its topics “ang apat na elemento”: hangin, tubig, apoy at lupa.

Luckily the ZCSPC was one of them with the rest of high schools here in Mindanao region. There were only few schools who participated and about 700 students entire the Philippines. There were only 8 participants for ZCSPC hsl;

1st year: KHALID KONG

2ND year: AL-JOHN AHMAD

3rd year: MA.CRISTINA GARITO

DELZHAMER HADJIRUL

EIDRUS DIMAN

DARAH FAYE MERCADO

With 2 science teachers:

Mrs. Jocelyn I. Kong

Mrs. Farida J. Diman

They first rode on a plane and proceed to a transit bus, they arrived La Vista Balanga Inland Resort Balanga City,Bataan @10:00 in the evening and they really enjoyed the tour!

On the first day, the facilitator (tumarons) teach us the different claps and the morning exercise ,that courage the student to be alive! The campers engaged in a series of lectures and workshops that opened their eyes on the latest state of the environment and how humans contributed to the global problems on biodiversities (land)among living things. There are two biodiversities we had the plants and animal biodiversities. Then we had the cheering practice that will be performed on the coming night! The team was called BALANGHAY and the participants are called SANDAYO! Wehave some workshops like the aquifer and the green make over. The ABS-CBN foundation “kapit bisig sa ilog pasig” discussed as about the goal and plans about this project with the support of Philippine governments and local communities therein! In the evening we have our PISTA SA NAYON! Our facilitators are well dressed with Spanish attires with games and cheering competitions which will be given P5000 to the winner! There were 24 subcamps/balanghay! Kong’s was HYDROFIVERS as no.5, Ahmad’s was KULSIYENSYA as no.24, Garito’s was SAVENas no.7,Hadjirul’s was GININTUANG LUNOK as no. 3, Mercado’s was AQUATRO as no.4 ,and Diman’s wasas no.22.

On the 2nd day The campers also learned more on alternative energy(fire) and natural resources by means of climate change(air)and how humans can still make a difference to save the earth. The camp was graced by distinguished speakers who fascinated the sandayos. Then we have the banner making where it colors our ideas on this camp, luckily the group of Mercado got the top , we also hadour SCHOOL QUIZ BEE .In the late afternoon we went to mt.samat where our true colors are revealed posing in some pictures shot. There we experience how DAMBANA NG KAGITINGAN was when we went to the top of the cross riding on an elevator with the tagline…PSSSTT…T2!!!…At night we were entertained by the “HATAW SAYAW GALAW” or the ENTERTAINMENT NIGHT where schools fought each other not by strength but by their talents!

On the 3rdday, the much awaiting workshop of all,the balanghays (subcamps) engaged in a whole day event of physical and mental activities during the over-all workshop “ANG HULING PAGSUBOK or the AMAZING RACE” and the CAMP FAIR or BOOTH! We enjoyed it very much as if all the excitement and all the chances to be overwhelm with them. At night we participated the special topic: Astronomy. After that the balanghay participated the “SIKLABAN: LABANAN NG MGA TALINO” or what we call the SUBCAMP QUIZ BEE! Happily the group of Ahmad (KULSIYENSYA) got the top! They also gave the rules and regulations on the coming FIELD TRIP!

The fourth day marks a very important event in the history of PSYSC. During the field trip ,The campers also visited the aeta community (Pamulaklakin) in Subic and were shown basic jungle survival skills. They also went to Subic Bay to experience its white sand and to feel the fresh air within! After that we went to Morong,Bataan to see some sea turtles/pawikans. Thecampers adopted baby pawikansand released them to the sea. We attended some lectures and we saw how cute sea turtles are, specially when they are released to the sea! The event was a significant representation of each science clubber’s commitment to protect the endangered species. And the final night has come, “THE PLEDGE NIGHT”. Though we feel sad that we’ll leave the camp, we are equally happy for sharing the short days with everyone. We have learned and gained friends and most especially we created a memory that will last forever. And even if we miss each other, we shall not forget this line — “Long as you are in my heart, we’ll never say goodbye” —That was the night were all sorrows are revealed when we lighted candles forming the symbol of friendship and teamwork singing the farewell song…“WELL NEVER SAY GOODBYE” …

In the awarding night! 7 of us got awards! “ the importance of this camp is that we should remember friendship never last even if you are apart. Though technology gets higher, the 4 elements will always remain in our environment forever… (PSYSC.org)
